How to Throw a Children’s Party on a Budget
Parents will always want to make their kids’ birthdays as memorable as possible. These days, parents seem to like competing on who can throw their kids the greatest, biggest celebration. However, with the rising cost of almost everything in the market, it’s still possible to celebrate on a budget even if children’s parties are usually costly. All it takes is some careful planning and a lot of imagination.
The first thing to do is to decide on a budget. Stick to this budget no matter what, because before you know it you’ll keep spending on spending more than you should. Next, decide on how many guests you’d like to invite. A simple rule to stick by is to invite your child’s closest playmates in the neighborhood, and his classmates. Personally deliver the invites and ask the parents or guardians to RSVP so you can cut corners if less people will be showing up. Remember that for kids under 5, it would be wise to request for a guardian or a parent to be present so as to supervise the child’s activities and whereabouts.
Second, choose a theme for the entire party. It can be your child’s favorite cartoon character, superhero, or favorite sport. Indicate the theme when you have the invitations printed out, but remember that there are many options out there for inexpensive invitations. If you’re preparing the party well ahead of time, homemade invitations would do just fine. Then start selecting party favors and decors that go with the theme. Remember that children do not really mind if you choose more expensive favors or cheaper ones; kids are usually happy to just go home with something they can play with. If you are having an outdoor party, kids would be happy with inexpensive water guns.
Third, decide on a location for the party. If you want to spend a little more for a nice place, go ahead and rent. Otherwise, kids would still have fun in a home or backyard. However, make sure that the location you choose is age-appropriate for the children.
Fourth, stick to old-fashioned means of entertainment and games. You can’t go wrong with inexpensive games such as pin the tail on the donkey, musical chairs, and providing arts and crafts.
Fifth, food is usually another very costly aspect of a children’s party. If you know how to cook, provide simple yet delicious foods for the parents and children alike. You can bake cookies, provide hotdogs and chili dogs, and purchase fruit juice, snacks, and ice cream. Ordering pizza is another surefire way to please everyone too. If you know how to bake, baking your child’s birthday cake can save you a lot of money rather than going to a bakery.Lastly, get a handful of inexpensive toys and candies for goodie bags. Simply purchase a paper or plastic bag small enough to hold giveaways, such as balloons, candies, and little toys. These mementos are a way for you to thank your guests for arriving and participating in your child’s birthday party, but they do not have to be extravagant.
